does AC have something similare to a freeze selected button?
IE, select an item and push the button and it will freeze out the layer that item is on?
would be so much easye rand faster then Ctrl L find layer freeze back to work.

I don't use this very often but it does come in handy when there is something that you know shouldn't be moved/stretched.
And as you say it is sometimes handy to not have to lock the whole layer.

Personally though I tend to work without locking items or layers.
It's a bit like grouping.
A very handy feature but I am just used to working without it most of the time.

When placing a scan of a site plan, after getting the size, rotation angle and placement correct, I lock it down.

I nail everything down that is not supposed to move like grids
and any meticulously placed elements.

I know this is an older thread, but what I am looking for is similar and in line with this discussion.

I am looking for a shortcut to turn a certain set of layers ON. For instance, I have a layer for Hidden Section/Elev markers. When I switch (using view maps) these layers go away. I know I can switch stories/views using the project map and the layer visibility will not change...I do this in some cases. I just find myself wanting to turn on certain layers as I am working.

Thoughts?

Does making a "work" or something layer combo and saving a new view helps? This way if you switch using your standard view and your layers go away just click the work view and your layers are back.

Yes, this would work and I have experimented with this. I just think a "1 key" shortcut would be much more efficient. I like my fast short cuts.

With simple addon you can have a layer palette always open. One click to open/close layers.

Thanks for the link Marc. I am really looking for something I can use as a "1-key" shortcut. When I need to move around a screen with my mouse, scroll through 100 layers and then click 5 times to turn on 5 layers...this to me is not efficient.

I just make a layer combination for what ever I need.
Then when I change views and I want to see the section lines again then it is just one click on the Quick Options Palette and choose from the list.
