upgrading template file V9 to 11

Just wondering what is best to do- I am upgrading from v 9 to 11.


I have to update my template file which is full of version 9 library parts, should I update these to the relevant 11 library part or should I just load the version 9 libraries too.

Upgrade them to the equivalent AC11 parts. Otherwise you will be loading AC9 and AC11 library parts, taking twice as long to load (not to mention a lot of duplicates and lots of markers that won't work anymore)

Does this work for AC 8.1 to AC 11 too? and what other issues may one encounter in making such a jump? I have been using AC 8.1 for 4yrs and all my files are in this version.

I have kind of compromised. I have saved my version 9 template as an archive file. I have extracted the objects from this file and put them into a folder which has been loaded into the new 11 template. It is only a few Mb

Hopefully I will eventually repalce the 9 parts with the more up to date equivalents in due course.

From my experience I have found that by starting fresh from the out of the box AC template and rebuilding your office standards around it seems to be the best bet.
So you don't bring over bad habits/bugs from previous versions of archicad. I know it sounds painful but we have done both methods of archiving old and new templates but they always seem to have problems with them. We then started to create new office templates as new versions of archicad come out. This also includes libraries, custom objects, layers, materials, viewsets, ect...
