AC18 Bim Server Error: "Permissions revoked/Project deleted"

Anonymous
Not applicable
When working on teamwork projects, several users in our office have gotten the following error message:

"Your project is not accessible on the server. Probably it has been deleted or your view permission has been revoked."

All users in our office have the "Lead Architect" level of permissions. In addition, all user profiles were set up in BIM Server 18 before they started using the program, and have not been changed since. In addition, no projects have been deleted from our server

Each time a user receives this message, they are forced to close and discard their local data, and their work is lost. A couple of users have tried to work in the offline mode and copy in unsaved work to the project file-however, when they attempt to re-join the project on the server, they are locked out of the project.

Is there a solution to this issue? A photo of the error message is attached to this post.

Erin,

It is not an issue being reported by any other users to North American Technical Support. Please open ArchiCAD and go to Help>Check for Updates to see if you have installed Update 4020 for ArchiCAD (Released 10/30/2014. Tested for: ArchiCAD 18 AUS, AUT, GER, INT, ITA, JPN, NZE, USA, UKI as of 11/10/2014.)

If not:
- Download the Update.
- Pick an appropriate time to install the update since you will need to do the same on all ArchiCAD workstations and the BIM Server in order to keep everything in synch.
- Quit ArchiCAD and run the Update installer on the ArchiCAD workstations.
- Run the same ArchiCAD 18 Update 4020 installer on the BIM Server (Do not install the BIMcloud update on a BIM Server. BIM cloud and BIM Server are 2 separate products.)
-Re-open ArchiCAD and Join the project.

I hope this helps. Otherwise I will contact you directly to collect logs about the issue since it does not appear to be a widespread matter.

PS - As always, we recommend that you have back-ups of all your data, especially when making modifications to your system. A PLN back-up is recommended for Teamwork projects since a PLN file may easily be opened in ArchiCAD and quickly re-shared to Teamwork.

Thank you for the response.

We have installed the Update 4020 in our office.

The error message seems to appear usually when a lot of users are working in ArchiCAD. We have not had an error since installing the hotfix a couple of days ago, but we have not had a high level of activity during that time period.

Are there any other possible reasons this could be happening?

We are also getting this problem more frequently. Oddly, it's gotten worse since we installed the 4020 update a couple of weeks ago. I would like to start blanket migration of AC17 projects to AC18, but at the moment I'm going to have to hold off, as AC18 is just not as stable on the few projects we've migrated.

One saving grace... typically, if you choose to work in "Offline" mode, you can continue to work, and a bit later change the status at the top of the Teamwork Palette (click the arrow and select the "Work Offline" option, which has a checkmark, thereby un-checking it). Most of the time it simply returns to Online mode. Sometimes, however, it keeps popping Offline.

We have added several laptops to the network, which seem to be the most prone to this problem, but I'm not certain if it's significant.

We have an extremely robust LAN (Gigabit Ethernet, mostly Macs over AFP, fiber switches, etc.), with full time IT support, and our network appears to be working continuously. We have 2 physical BIM Servers, each running both AC17 and AC18 Modules.

I'm not sure if it's related, but I've also noticed that the BIM Server Manager is not accurately logging Project and User Activity. It will only report from a couple of people. That has me worried about this new BIM Server architecture.
