License Delivery maintenance is expected to occur on Saturday, November 30, between 8 AM and 11 AM CET. This may cause a short 3-hours outage in which license-related tasks: license key upload, download, update, SSA validation, access to the license pool and Graphisoft ID authentication may not function properly. We apologize for any inconvenience.

BIM SERVER - software loaded on a user machine.

We have the BIM Server software on the server. Now I've been told that I can also access that same BIM Server software on my local user machine.

What's the process?
Basically, we now moved upstairs and the BIM Server is downstairs and I'd like to be able to access the BIM Server directly from my MAC station.

What do I need to do?

Cannot understand your question. What do you mean by 'access'? If you can access the downstairs server from your upstairs machine, then of course you can access the BIM Server software running on it.

It sounds, though, like you're talking about running BIM Server on your own machine? If so, yes, it can be installed on any computer - nothing about it has to be on a machine running a server operating system. But, then you have to set things up so that other users can access your machine (assuming it is powerful enough to host the BIM Server while you are also working in ArchiCAD on the same machine)...

Anyway...what are you really asking?

Cheers,
Karl

Maybe what Rob needs to install on his machine is the separate BIM Server Manager program.

If you have screen sharing enabled on the server machine you can remotely log into it from your computer.

OK, let me rephrase.

We are using ARchicad14 TW (latest hotfixes, latest everything)..all up to date.

I have the BIM Manager software loaded on the miniMac server.
Right now, I have to physically go downstairs to access the BIM server manager software...but I'd like to be able to access the software from my iMac terminal.

What do I need to do to do this?

2) how do I access the BIM Server Manager program on the miniMac server from my machine??

Hi Rob,

I'm straying into an area I know nothing about (!), but isn't the 'BIM Server Manager' found on the original installation disk in the tools & utilities section?

The Teamwork section in the Wiki led me to the Teamwork Essentials PDF document which gives some further info -

Note: One component of the Graphisoft BIM Server is the BIM Server Manager, which is installed automatically along with the BIM Server. However, you can also optionally install the BIM Server Manager as a stand-alone application on remote machines. Separate, stand-alone installation of the BIM Server Manager (available from the Tools & Utilities section of the ArchiCAD 13 installation DVD) is necessary only if you plan to manage the BIM Server remotely, from a machine other than the server itself.

OK...so if I get the original CD, install the BIM Server MANAGER program on my Mac station...then could I access the bim server files??...what do I have to do to make sure that the BIM server manager program on MY Mac is accessing the files off the server??

Also...only reason I'd like to be able to call up the BIM Server Manager program is so I can manage the projects, users, etc...from my machine without having to go to the BIM Server physical location all the time.

After you install BIM Server Manager from your CD, you MUST run the latest hotfix again to update the just-installed (and thus out-of-date) BIM Server Manager.

Then, you just access the server the same as you do in ArchiCAD: via either its name or its IP address. Whatever you enter to join a project is what you enter in BS Manager to access the server.

You do not access the BIM Server FILES with BIM Server or BIM Server Manager, rather you manage them, as you say - projects, users, libraries, etc. (You access the files themselves via ArchiCAD joining a project.)

Cheers,
Karl
