Replaced hard drive BIM server gone

Anonymous
Not applicable
Apple had a recall on their recent 27" iMac to replace the hard drive. I backed everything up on Time Machine and did a reinstall when I got it back. Everything works fine except it can't find the BIM server. Message: Do I need to reinstall the server or just point to it somehow?

Oddly enough, all of my library parts are still available in each project I open.

I've had a number of experiences like this. I've relied on Time Machine for a full restore, and in every case it has worked perfectly. The OS, applications, settings, documents, etc are all perfectly restored as if nothing happened, with one exception... ArchiCAD. Something will always be missing from the ArchiCAD folder - sometimes a little and sometimes a lot - so I always have to reinstall ArchiCAD. My guess is that Graphisoft is mishandling permissions, blocking Time Machine from backing up properly.

I'd like to see GS clean up their installation on the Mac platform in general. ArchiCAD stands out as being almost the only application that isn't installed or removed as a single icon in the Application folder - we instead find a huge jumble of files and folders sprayed about in an ArchiCAD folder. Even XCode doesn't do that now. Users should never have to see (or manage) files like dom4j-1.6.1.jar or xercesImpl.jar.

and the crappy OSX installer does not work like every other Mac installer does and request admin authentication if not logged in as an admin user ... you have to switch accounts...

even for installing Add-Ons...

really?

Thanks Ralph, I forwarded the information on to our Graphisoft tech rep. Maybe in version 17?!

Nick, as to your first point above, there are pointers that you can reset. You do this by removing some temporary xml files that stores the history of BIM Server's you have connected to. Here are the steps:

1. Quit ArchiCAD.
2. Delete Connections.xml file from: (user)/Library/Application Support/Graphisoft/ConnectionInfo/<Version Number - i.e. 16.0.0>
3. Delete the Teamworkinfo_v2.xml and/or Teamworkinfo.xml from: (User)/Library/Preferences/Graphisoft
4. Restart the computer, open ArchiCAD and join your BIM Server.

If the steps above do not resolve the matter then, within ArchiCAD, go to Teamwork/Projects/Local Data Manager and delete the local project data. WARNING only do this if you are confident the BIM Server copy has the latest version of the file. If not then you will delete any unsent changes.

If you do have unsent changes in your local copy that you wish to save then first open the local copy and save the file as a .PLN Then delete the local data and subsequently re-join the project and copy and paste data from .PLN to BIM Server project.
