Datasmith Exporter into ArchiCAD 28

Martin Jules

Datasmith has already been integrated into Allplan and Vectorworks. Could we expect such a built-in connection with ArchiCAD 28?

What you are saying is true, but it was Epic Games' decision to change that and go with the current solution. It was always their decision since they are the developers of the Datasmith Exporter and Twinmotion (since they acquired it from Abvent in 2019).

If I had to speculate, I would say that they changed to this solution because they wanted applications to have a connection to not only Twinmotion but to the underlying Unreal Engine as well, potentially attracting more people to their ecosystem.

I assume that it is coming, but since Epic Games develops it, it is up to them when they release it.

If you ask this question on the Twinmotion forums they might be able to give you a more accurate answer than mine.

The last few versions, they have been pretty slow to release the AC plug-in. I'm not expecting to see it before the end of the year; but thats not based on any actual intel, just past experience from the previous 2 releases.

It is usually tied into Unreal Engine releases. I would expect that an exporter for Archicad 28 would come out alongside the Unreal Engine 5.5 release.

This is a partial answer from the Twinmotion team:

Do you remember of this deal: Epic Acquires Twinmotion from Abvent—Joins Unreal Engine Suite of TechnologiesIn the past, ArchiCAD users did not have to wait all this time to have access to the latest version of the plug-in facilitating the connection between ArchiCAD and Twinmotion. Currently, Abvent belongs to Graphisoft. Why not Twinmotion? It is about a lack of vision on the Nemetschek Group part which is currently causing us to suffer from the Twinmotion (Datasmith) plug-in.

"If you cannot wait for Twinmotions Archicad 28 Datasmiths update."
Archicad 28 gives you the option to convert your 28 version to 27.
First, copy and use your copied Archicad 28 version, then open it in Archicad 28 and save it as Archicad 27, then open it in Archicad 27.
