I remember a while ago there was a link to a free download. Does anyone know if any such think is available?

The CE version (r6) was free with some magazines and there was also a temporary action from Maxon USA, set up by Mark Burginger with someone from Maxon.

But you were never able to (legally) download Cinema4D for free.

The demo is free, but save-disabled. This is r10 now.

Have you installed the C4D add-on too? Not only the ArchiCAD exporter?

Obviously not.I ve installed the maxon form add-on. Why do they make our lifes difficult...Wish we all lived in a perfect world with only ONE rendering software that can do everything easily...!Back to reality...where can i find it?Thanx in advance stefan!

You need two things:
- the ac4d exporter Add-on for ArchiCAD. That one you got working.
- the ac4D importer plug-in for Cinema4D. Not sure that it'll work in MaxonForm, but that is a 9.x version, while current C4D is at 10. Make sure you have the correct C4D version.

Making two programs work together fine is only going to work in the particular combination that is supported. Better upgrade them both whenever you can, or stay at a combination that is compatible.

I still find it strange that this C4D Exchange plugin costs enough, is not downloadable (although the update seems to work) and that the reseller doesn't seem to be able to deliver. And no clear info about availability for students...

Probably not. The Archicad Exchange program (for C4D to read AC4D files) was a $79 product,.
