HELP: Textures Not Aligning

gpowless

Hi,

For some reason over the past little while I haven't been able to get some textures to align. The most notable occurs with the face of the slab not matching the siding. This usually only occurs on 2 of the four typical sides of a building.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Gregg

(added in edit): I should add that in the past I was aware that this would occur if the slab was not perfectly aligned with the wall. As well I have set the textures of all elements to 0,0,0 to no avail.....

Did you just eyeball it or what?!

Seriously, what wall(s) did you select and where did you place the origin?

Ok,
I'll let you in on my secret, no just joke'n no secret really. Yes I did eye ball it, if this is not accurate enough then I don't know what is? I then zoomed in as close as I could possibly go. I had the bottom right hand side wall selected and lined it up in the corner of all 3 walls.
See the attached image.

That's it. Have a stab it yourself, you'll find how easy it really is.

Cheers mate.

Hi,

I figured the wall thing out before. But the real problem is the slab will not align with the walls.

...well after trying a few things, I changed the direction of some walls and was able to get them to align with the slab. Funny thing is that there is no sense to the direction as a couple of them go opposite to the others. (I started out with using the "box" wall tool to form a rectangle when I started the project)

This is a bug, IMHO that should not appear in such a complex program. Hey Graphisoft, can you fix this ASAP?

Thanks for everyone's help

I thought you may have been using ArchiCAD 9 Miracle version for a minute there, but it seems you're on the popular 'Eyeball' version.

That method just doesn't cut it for someone as pure as myself mate.

It's just that if the 3D Hatch changes by definition or orientation, then everything is out of whack, and we're no better off.

He's not qualifying for the 20 bucks, but I'll buy him a few beers in Budapest!

This whole orientation deal has kinda bugged me for years, and I have certainly made Graphisoft aware of the issue. I especially don't like the fact that the outcome of magic wanded walls on a slab, depends on which direction the slab was modeled. This should be of no consequence to the end user IMO.

Don't start me on magic wanding in the 3D window!

Woody,
No I haven't yet, but I'll hit him up for a beer in Budapest in May instead BTW, are you going to be there?
Cheers.

Yes mate,
You are totally right. For visualization purposes this method is fine, but as you pointed out if hatching defs change, it's back to square one.

May be this is one for the wish list? Improvements in texture alignment.

Yea magic wand in 3D, lets no go there

Cheers.

I don't know... I still think you should get the 20 bucks... the walls weren't modeled in different directions I think he'll have to buy me a beer when we're in Budapest too on that one

Yes they were! And that was the official resolution from Graphisoft given the exact same file!

I'd be happy to buy you a beer too Mr Schempp, although maybe this would be better settled with a unicum?:D
