Anyone considering using Octane Render for production, should definitely use it with a system that uses 2 video cards (one for display - the other for rendering). When I tried out the demo version, it does lock up other applications significantly while rendering.
You can use PC nvidia cards keep existing ATI card for driving the display and use nvidia card purely for rendering / calculation.

Looks like it won't work on any iMacs as it requires NvidiaYou can run OctaneStandalone on NVidia card equiped Macs (the bigger Macbook Pro's, etc). The OctaneRender for ArchiCAD plugin however has not yet been compiled under OSX. I think there will probably be Mac versions of some the plugins the next 3-6 months.
graphic cards. Too bad.

This is too bad as I was thinking of trying it out but I have ATI in my MacPro and am not eager to drop $1200 on a Quadro 4000. (It looks like B&H photo has them for $750 but still...)

btw Do you have any idea if/when a demo will be available? At a guess, I would say it's 2-3 weeks away. But things like the next release of Octane might get in the way.

You can go to any point in the video after it starts.ArchiCAD is incredibly well suited to cloud rendering solutions like this, because in general the scene geometry and texturemaps are considerably smaller than with other 3d modelling apps (so the bandwidth requirement is lower), and once the scene is in the cloud renderer, only the camera position or sun vector need to be changed to render fly-thru's and sun studies.
You need to go to the 2 h 10 minute mark, that is where the Octane part starts.
Pretty impressive, by the way.

Otoy announced today a cloud rendering solution for OctaneRender. The announcement is at render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=29544. The video link is particularly interesting - from 2hrs 36mins onwards - and shows the sort of thing which will be possible to do directly from the OctaneRender for ArchiCAD plugin.
Also, the next release of Octane is going to lift the recommendation of having a second graphics card for your Windows display adapter - which will be a welcome enhancement.
