Panoramic Backgrounds

Hi All,

I'm trying to find what i believed was an object that you could attach a panoramic photo to, to create a rotating background. I'm sure I've seen it before in my library or at where i used to work. The preview image looks like a stubby cylinder with a picture wrapped around it or something similar.

Can anyone please tell me where i can find this object again or something similar. Did it actually exist or should i take of my tin foil hat and lay off the wacky tabaccy.

Thanks

It exists.

From GDL Cookbook days, "CYCLORAMA"

But for LightWorks rendering, you are better off building a pair of walls each mapped with 1/2 of the panorama. [You will notice that a circular wall has two 180 degree parts]

Make the wall material have "CONSTANT" reflection to avoid shadows.

I understand that it has fallen off a lorry in your general direction.

If you've not found cyclorama yet and Google didn't yield anything, try the dedicated search engine link in my signature. Also, have a look at this wiki page.

Hi Dwight + Vistasp,

Thanks for your help with the cyclorama. Much appreciated.

I'm yet to look at the GSM's you've sent, there was the small matter of the weekend and fishing to deal with.

Thanks again.

The difference between cyclorama elements and the panoramic background is that a background is always infinitely distant while a number of concentric cycloramas using masking for the sky create changing interactive mid-ground elements supporting plausible navigation through a 3D environment.
