There are dedicated software for making seamless textures, look here:

If you are using Photoshop than you might be interested in those plug-ins. You can make textures tileable with one click, it's quick and dirty but can save lot of time.

..or you can always go for some professional, multilayered textures:

but I can't find the posts using forum search...
Without plugins, the tedious process in Photoshop involves using the Offset filter and the clone, healing and other brushes and more...
