top view with shadows?

It is true that you can't do this with one keystroke, but you can plan for it.

By turning off the roof/ceiling layers and making a top view, either through an internal engine analytical view, where shadow edges can be captured as lines or a rendering where the shadows will be cast as in a perspective, you get your effect.

One might think that the 3D cubic marquee could somehow come into play on this but I can't figure it out.

You must copy shadow from 3D Window, than put this on your roof plan:
Use internal engine, and take angle from top view, and copy with marquee tool jus shadow, and put this on your floor plan.
One tip:
Make extra layer for shadow. You can change egily color or something like that.

I had it working, earlier. Maybe it was a beta.

A solution might be to use a horizontal cutting plane.
in AC10 check View/Elements in 3D view/3D Cutting Planes
Set a cutting plane, Then goto View/Elements in 3D view/3D Cutaway
