More flexible design for Windows and Doors

Leire Bilbao

More options for design of windows. Infinite combinations of portions and openings.

If I want to have 3 sliders, with top hung window over and a bottom fixed transom and a sidelight, I should be able to do it.

No need for a million types of windows, just make the "variable" window FULLY variable so I can add as many parts I want with whatever openings I want.

Great point,

1 - we need windows for more specific frame like passivhaus standard windows: https://www.passivhausfenster.com/en/homeowners/products/smartwin

2 - we need conectivity for passivhaus and for wood or straw wall panels settings.

3 - working reveal settings in 3D supporting structure of the wall not only in 2D!

4 - in the shading setting we need more options:  shutter to insolation maybe

5 - frameless settings for fix + opening window

🙂

I should also add.

When changing a window to a different opening arrangment / type, all the previously defined properties of the opening are lost which is time consuming to rectify.

If you select the window or door on floorplan/section/3D... and then pick up it´s properties with the eyedropper tool (ALT), then go into it´s settings and CTRL+ALT (syringe tool) + click on an other window/door type. It will inherit the properties.

@DOWA Thanks for this nugget of information!

This is never mentioned in any presentations or discussions that I have seen.

I suggest taking inspiration from Allplan's windows, where you first define the characteristics of the window, then you insert it into an opening of any shape and it adapts.

I'm a regular user of LPM, so much to the point that I don't mind Doors and Windows aren't parametric, I can't remember the last time I used Archicad's Doors and Windows in any stage after conceptual design.

I've been advocating for something like this for years.
Nowadays a believe LPM would solve this problem perfectly but it needs further development, namely:

• Improved Handling of Non-Rectangular Doors and Windows https://community.graphisoft.com/t5/Wishlist/Library-Part-Maker-Improved-Handling-of-Non-Rectangular...

• ability to create parametric objects (width, thickness, height of elements)

• Ability to create any type of archicad objects (curtain wall panels, taps, etc)

Thank you for the suggestion. This is the direction we eventually would like to go as a longer term aim. However in the short term we plan targeted fixes with the existing doors/windows based on local needs and requirements. For example we have introduced a new sliding flexible door in an Archicad 28 library update.
