BimX for iPad

Hi everyone,
we are considering purchasing an iPad in the near future and BimX may be one of the apps to buy.

I had a look at the Bimx presentation videos on youtube, but I could not understand how much of the original functions have been brought into the ipad version.

Has anyone used it yet?

Hi Enrico,

It differs quite a lot from the BIMx desktop application as iPad differs from a PC.

Thank for your reply, Katalin.

The one thing I am not clear about is: once you are walking through your BIMx model on your iPad, can you actually take measurements etc., like you do in the desktop version? Being able to also link and read pdf would really be helpful on the costruction site (I dont know if the desktop version allows for it or not).

I am asking this because we are considering integrating a BIMx model (actually three: bearing structure, raw construction and complete building) in our standard construction documentation.

A problem that we have with BIM technology is to document it all in a consistent way, without producing cubic meters of paper that are of little use on the costruction site. If the contractor receives a BIMx model, they can extract all the info they need from the actual model, without having to look through 200 sheets of paper.

Well, that's an understandable need.
At the moment these tools, like Measure Tool are available in the desktop version only. Unfortunately PDF cannot be imported in any BIMx versions.

Well, any chance you can pass the message to the R&D section?

As I wrote, one big problem with BIM technology is to communicate all the information you enter into the virtual building. I really don't think that BIM and paper are compatible in the long run, they literally belong to two different centuries!
