ArchiCAD/Revit shootout proposal

Djordje

Canadians, are you ready?

There is a proposal on Revit discussion group to organize a shootout.

Good idea! With good people on both sides this can turn into a VERY interesting event!

thats why you have bn so quite lately
I've been lurking more lately, checking to see what you guys are up to on a regular basis. I caused a little too much controversy in the past, so I've scaled back. Plus, no one has posted any "Revit can't do <fill in the blank>" posts, so I haven't needed to respond.

Revit 7.0 stuff looks promising for the Revit users. We are as excited about our new release as you guys are about AC 9.0. Looks like a little ArchiCAD influence in the Revit camp, as there is a new tool called "Building Maker." I don't know what it does yet, but the naming seems to follow some of your products...PlotMaker, StairMaker, etc.

They'll never come to a shootout if a Gene Simmons Avatar gives them the shuffles.

Scott,
hopefully seems now more clear that we all walk on the same path...
Maybe we should ask for a "save as *.rvt" in ArchiCAD and you for a " save as *.pln" in Revit. It will become handy in the future

I think we are almost ready for the shootout...some Revit 7.0 images are showing up at news://discussion.autodesk.com/autodesk.revit

Check 'em out if you want to see what the competition has been up to.
Nice ones. The shell seems a bit over the top, but the shaded perspective views including shadows are nice. Are they live-views? That is, interactive & realtime?

And that mass-studies seemed also very interesting.

And interesting to read that people are still looking forward to what Gehry is doing with Catia. The best is yet to come for ArchiCAD, Revit & others.

(We have been discussing last week that Word processing & spreadsheets are about "complete". Nothing spectacular ever happened in the few latest updates. But for CAD/BIM, a lot of innovation is still going on.)

Call it save as IFC and we are almost there.
If IFC would be pushed further, this could happen, sooner or later.

And I heard IFC-support in Revit is on it's way. I hope so.

IFC Export has arrived in Revit 8.0 but no IFC import (yet?).

So we can (theoretically) load a Revit Model into ArchiCAD. Not the other way around, though, for now.

And for the shootout? Who is wanting to have a go at it?

I've proposed this sort of an idea -- a general demonstration of the virtual building -- to our local architectural governing body. While it would be interesting to have Revit and ArchiCAD square off (giving everyone the opportunity to whine about their own list of missing features the other app has), it would be more interesting if we can get more people using more intelligent CAD applications.
