Can't open dwg file?

I am using ArchiCAD 8.1, system windows xp, and when I try to open a project sent to me saved from Autodesk Architectural desktop 2004 I am unable to open it. ArchiCAD says "The following DWG file's format is unsupported". If I have the person save the dwg in an earlier format like AutoCAD 2000 I am able to open the file. My operating system is up to date, are there ArchiCAD up dates that I don't have? Is there a way for me to check?

Somebody will correct me if I'm wrong, but Autocad 2000 is the most recent version supported by Archicad. The program is not lying to you.

ArchiCAD does not open AutoCAD 2004 (or newer, 2005 is due soon) file format. The newest one it opens is 2000/2002. So, ask your consultant to send you the DWG in 2000/2002 format.
