Tekla BIMsight - free IFC collaboration software

Tekla announced a new product which is similar to Navisworks. It is called BIMsight and it is a collaboration tool based on the IFC format as far as I can tell.

As I can see from the below comparison to Navisworks, it has less features and handles less file formats but it is free.

I am wondering how much impact can a product like this make in Navisworks' territory.

C'mon guys. Give me a few minutes.

I just downloaded it and will be looking at it over the next few weeks (while I check out the new Tekla version 17).

I sat down yesterday to watch House (great episode btw). I had a glass of red wine and some peanuts and started up my five year old dragster windows laptop (sound of a dragster, speed of a snail...) and installed BIMsight and spent 50 minutes with it.

BIMsight video tutorials among the best I've seen...

Looks very promising. Easy to use. Easy to save views. Easy to add comments to views/issues. I hope some of my clients will try BIMsight on huge IFC-arch+struct IFC-models to get some feedback on performance.

Looking forward to reports from some guru-testers...😉

Go Tekla!!!!

I am also reading good reviews of it around the web.
Does not know as much as NavisWorks, but knows quite a bit and it it free while NavisWorks is pricey.

Come on. It's only $2500 (in the US) unless you want the clash detection. Then it's $10,000.

I've been too busy to get a close look at BIMsight yet (though I've been looking over Tekla in some detail which is great). I'll be putting some big models into it as soon as I can. I'll let you all know what I find.

We have a saying for deals like this in Hungarian:

It is worth it even for a fool.

or

It is a great deal even for a fool.

I did try it briefly and noticed that slabs with curved edges do no import correctly. Did try all the defined exports for Tekla in AC with the same result.
