drawings to third party

I’m having problems getting my head around the production of dwgs.
The way Archicad 10 requires the drawings to be updated before it will allow the drawing to go into AutoCAD model space.
eg. You’re in the middle of changes to a project and you get a call from an engineer to send most resent set of drawings. Not wanting to issue a new revision till you have completed the stage you are working on you publish and send the most resent drawings to the engineer.
Half an hour later you get a call from the engineer that he cant open the drawings in model space you then have choices

1 update and give a drawing which you would ordinarily not like to send a revision and publish and send.

2. Make the engineer our consultant what until your in frame of mind that your happy to issue the drawing with a new revision but , he then can blame you for the delay in his input to the project

3 work your drawing back to the previous stage so you can publish and send it with the most resent revision

I fell it is ludicrous to send a dwgs that fixes itself to paper space only if I wanted to send electronically, paper drawings only, I would send them as pdfs.

The reason I send drawings Dwgs is so they can be opened and edited, not so the engineers/consultants can look at a nice paper layout.

I was wondering if anyone else was of a similar opinion

Send them the "model space" version. I rarely, if ever, send anyone DWGs made from layouts.

Can dwg's be made from layouts? I tried this just yesterday (for the first time) because I wanted to send the entire page with title block, not just individual drawings. When I tried to open it just to check it, nothing appeared. Am I doing something wrong?

Sure, it's possible. The key is to watch your translator settings. There are several options that have serious results on the file you create, whether you are exporting paper space only, model space only, cropped viewports, etc.
