Offset Command

I'm learning how to use the offset command. Sometimes I can offset the line and sometimes I cannot offset the line, what is the problem?

That all depends on what exactly you are doing.
Can you post a screen shot with the element you are trying to offset selected.

It should be a case of activate the line tool, activate the offset tool then either click the points you want to offset or magic wand (space bar) on the line (edge) you want to offset.

thank you, I didn't activate the line tool, that's why sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't work.
