Is there a way to lock the Renovation filter to NEW Construction?

I keep seeing that the Renovation Filter keeps jumping back to "Existing" which is causing problems for all our new users. Is there a way to make NEW he default and keep it that way since we are currently working on NEW construction projects?

Of course I should create a ninth and new filter for "New Only" which shows only new construction and will not allow the status to change. Then set all my saved views to this.
