trying to figure out how to dimension perpendicular to an element. i then decided to draft a temporary line and dimension the line but can't get it to recognize the line correctly. thought i could just select the line and it would dimension correctly, but can't seem to figure that out either.
Operating system used: Mac Intel-based Sonoma 14.4.1

In the Dimension settings,
Under Geometry Method:
Do not use this:

Unfortunately the snap guides don't work while placing a dimension.
Yo need to establish the points first.
You can draw a line, but the dimension will associate to that line - delete the line and the dimension deletes.
Make the dimension static or ...
Place an orange guide line segment.
Then dimension that guide line and you can erase the guide line and the dimension will remain.
Just be aware the dimension is not associated to the lines.
The only way to associate the dimension to the lines is to create actual nodes at the points you want to dimension.
i.e. break the line or use a polyline with nodes.
Barry.

that is a big bummer but maybe someday.
