License Delivery maintenance is expected to occur on Saturday, November 30, between 8 AM and 11 AM CET. This may cause a short 3-hours outage in which license-related tasks: license key upload, download, update, SSA validation, access to the license pool and Graphisoft ID authentication may not function properly. We apologize for any inconvenience.

associated dimension to center point

Is there a way to make dimensions to a center point of a line associative rather than static?

I am using 19 on Mac

Not ideal but split the line in 2 so it is an end point rather than a mid-point.
Or replace it with a polyline with a node in the middle.
Of course this 'mid-point' will not move if you stretch the end of the line which is one reason why it is not ideal.

Are hotspots associative? (I don't have Archicad open at the moment.
If so at least then you can move the hotspot to the centre of the line if you need to stretch it.

I think John Weaver would like to have an associative link to the mid point of a line ... so that you stretch the line and the dimension keeps attached to the new mid point ... Right?
I'm not aware of such as function ... but it would be useful...

Alemanda I wold like the associative link to the center point for the stretching of lines as well as just moving lines where the hot spot or splitting lines would be ok, but not happy about the extra steps. Archicad used to have associative center points but recently changed to static center points.

I just checked (I didn't have Archicad with me before).
The centre point is associative up to version 17.
From 18 onward it is not.
I have no idea why this would have to have changed.

Barry, you are right, this capability was present in ARCHICAD 17, and then it was lost in versions since.
I will report this to GRAPHISOFT.

Thank you for checking on this. It is really frustrating for those of us who have been using Archicad for a long time (v4.5) when these things disappear.

Hi All,
This feature has been removed in ARCHICAD 18 because of a design decision. There was no special reason why only the line and only it’s middle point should be associative for dimensions. In projects it’s not a realistic scenario to dimension an object's middle point. Let us know if questions remain, k

Katalin, I understand what you are saying, but have to disagree a little. I do dimension to the middle of lines and circles since to do good quality working drawings there is some 2d drafting that needs to be done on Archicad drawings. It would be nice to have center points associative and not static.

I use hotspots for this, as Barry was suggesting as well I think. At least the dimension string isn't static that way.

Or an actual perpendicular line segment to symbolise the mid-axis.
