All I want to do is have a button to tell AC that I am building Existing on the Renovation filter, not to every tool twice once to put the window in, and again to set it for Existing...
use the 3D window and the "Edit Selection Set Tool" Should be a lot quicker.

okay.
then make sure you have the Renovation palette open and the proper status picked as you place objects.

good response.....OP...did this resolve your issue?
Think of the renovation filter as the "pline". If you start a pline and it has an arrow, or certain linetype....and you complete your pline command. The next time you select "pline" again......it will place a pline with an arrow head and the linetype of the "LAST" pline you placed. I know, abit odd to not have a default but the "default" is the last command that specific function used.
Same for reno filters......I think. Guru's is this not the case?

It does not show, only the outline of the window shows, I then have to select that window, open it up and set the renovation setting to Existing,,,,then, only then does the window show. Have to do this for every window, door, toilet, roof, line... WHAT I AM SAYING IS THE EVEN THOUGH I SET THE RENOVATION FILTER TO EXISTING...I HAVE TO AGAIN GO INTO WHATEVER TOOL I USED AND TELL IT TO BE ON EXISTING....
hum....so, then if you had to place windows in say..."existing" renovation filter...all the time....then what you are saying is that it switches back to some other renovation filter?
I've found that with renovation filters, sometimes the naming conventions of the renovations filters themselves, if not out of the box, and are "customized" per the office naming convention, throws parameters out of whack.
For example, if you have "renovation filters" that have a " | " (bar) in the naming convention, then Archicad has a hard time exporting those filters out to an XML file. So I know there are some nuainces (sp?) that may cause reno filters to misbehave.
