3D view in GDL missing in student version?

Ingolf

I am a teacher of BIM in general and Archicad in special. Just now I teach "Scripting in Archicad". The problem is that we don't see the 3D View in the GDL script. I suspect it is a missing feature in the student version. Anyone who can confirm this?

This is odd.

My understanding is that the educational software is exactly the same as the commercial software.

It is the licence that determines if it is an educational file or a commercial one.

It should not affect the actual option/controls within Archicad.

Maybe this would be a good question to bring up with your local Archicad support.

They should be able to test the same in both the educational and commercial versions.

Have you tried making a new object with just something simple like;

BLOCK 1,1,1

and seeing if that shows up in the 3D preview?

Thank you Barry. I have already posted a question to the Nordic BIM Group, I'll await an answer.

I have tried both very simple home made objects like a cube as you suggested, and gs objects. No trace of anything but a symbol in the 3D view in the GDL editor. Fit in Window doesn't help.

All the students experience the same problem. No visible object in the 3D View in the GDL editor.

@Hmooslechner is a teacher too and seems to do all of his coding under an EDU licence. I cannot seem to tag him though... Ah, he changed his username? Maybe he has some insight into what is going on.

It seems that there is a problem in the Norwegian version of Archicad (v26 and 27 at least). The Nordic BIM Group looks at the problem at this moment.

Works for me pretty fine - don't have this problem.

It is probably something in the Norwegian version of Archicad.

Now one of my BIM-students, Adrian Sørensen, has found it out. Probably something in the Norwegian version of the template. When in the GDL editor, you have to open Parallel Projection Settings and choose a random view. Then you will see the element in 3D View in GDL. Solved 😀

Thanks for letting us know the solution (I will mark it as solved).

I have also found if the 3D preview window is maximised (in TAB), that I sometimes get strange cutting planes cutting of the 3D model - never had it disappear completely though.

Un-docking (manually resizing the window so it is free-floating) seems to fix that.
