Improved Distance Guides

New, improved Distance Guides is no more experimental and available for everyone by default. It comes with the following new features:

  1. Context sensitive Stretch & Move - Distance Guides recognize the longitudinal and perpendicular directions of beams and walls and offer stretch and move respectively based on the context.
  2. Relink Distance Guides freely - You can relink Distance Guides to virtually any supported points or edges that you can snap to during work.
  3. Door / Window Nominal Size and Axis Support - Distance guides support nominal size settings of doors and windows and will link by default based on these settings. You can also switch Distance Guides to link to Axis instead of the nominal sizes, better supporting workflows and design stages when that is the most important input.

I find the guides are almost useless for placing new elements and you can't adjust where the guides measure to.

But place the element and then drag it, and you can set the measurement point.

I guess you need to give DGs more practice to digest it well,

in my first case guides were measured from the reference line as attached below.

*In this case I could change the reference line location to the other face so i could measure easily from that edge, you don't have to change the element's position to change its reference line location, you can use (Modify wall reference line) via toolbar or the Edit menu, I hope that helps.

* The attached photo is taken from V27 as the tooltips function is not working well in V28 & I sent a ticket regarding this.

Instead of playing around with what side of the wall the reference line is on (this can have other implications in your model), or what part of the wall the distance guides measure to (edge or reference line), I find it just easier to place the window (or element anywhere).

Then select and drag and then it is easier to reset where the distance guides measure to.

That way you can measure exactly to the point you want.

Of course, I can see how your solution is the best way to use DGs but I scare it can be the only way to use DGs.

Could you please share the ticket number, you have mentioned?

Hi @Illes Papp

Do you mean the ticket number regarding Tooltips disorder?

This is the one I've mentioned.

Here it's the ticket number link,
