Archicad 17 Painfully Slow

Even for basic 2d work. Am using a Windows 7 (64 bit) Toshiba laptop, first generation I7 (1.6 ghz), NVIDIA GeForce 310M (512 mb) video card with only 4 gb memory. Works fine for AC 15 and AC16, but crawls to a near stop with the same file in AC17. I think the maximum memory for my machine is 8 gb. Any hope for better performance with a memory upgrade or would that just be putting lipstick on a pig?

i am also stuck with this problem. in 3d window when i choose a single wall it delays 2 or 3 secs. and after i choose another wall (with shift on) the delay time doubles(like 4 or 6 secs).
3d window was greatly more faster and smoother with the early versions. even i was modeling making my project on 3d window with the earlier versions. it was that smooth and fast. no delay with the selections and modifies. a solution MUST come the earliest it can.
please solve this.

Talkers,

For us it is crucial to go after any speed issues that may affect your work in ArchiCAD. We tried to reach some of you via private messages, to ask for more details about these. So far we haven't received any answers, so I even asked our web team to verify the PM function here on Talk.

We located and fixed a couple of related problems based on reports that reached our global support force. We would like to make sure, that we found and fixed all aspect of the speed issues - detailed in this thread. For that we need your help.

What we need to verify the fixes:
- a project that is affected by such problem
- some directions, to know where to focus in our tests - e.g. screenshot showing the affected elements and some steps to replicate the slowness
- specs of your system - many of you have that in your signatures

To send us these, either:
- call or email your local support referencing this thread (and me) and they will forward all files and info to GRAPHISOFT HQ
- send me a private message and then we can discuss the details

Thanks, and any help is greatly appreciated,
Marton

I have also been having painfully slow archiCAD issues. It is beginning to make deadlines hard to meet. The software is acting like I giant weight and I could easily be working 2-3 times faster if not for these issues.

We run Mac's all fairly new with Mountain Lion, 8 gig ram, 3.2 ghz i5 processors and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675MX 1024 MB.

Issues are a 2-15 sec lag between selections and loading drawings in every view but it seems particularly bad in elevations and 3D. It is twice as bad whenever trace references are used. Same situation in solo files as in teamwork files. Closing and reopening the file does little to improve the situation. Running several open archiCAD files or only one also does not seem to make a difference.

If you are opening is a layout times that by the number of drawings so a sheet with 5 drawings often takes over a minute to load.

These issues need to be solved!

I've noticed since the last update (Build 5019) moving some objects or complex composites cause a 30sec to 1:30min hang. If I shut down and restart it will sometimes fix itself. It is worse after I come back from screen saver mode.

The behavior I have noticed seems to be video related. At one point I had a blue screen come from doing some 3D editing. Most the time however, it just slows things down.

Maybe a video memory leak or some direct addressing of the video ram?

I've been playing around with Selection and Element settings in Work environment and sadly there´s little effect.
Turning all the highlight options off even makes it worse.

The only thing making any difference is decreasing the response time for highlight.

Selection 1, 2 and 3 are ok but after that it slows down, often resulting in a missed or wrong selection or marquee.

I just installed a SSD hard drive and Archicad is lightning fast now!
OS is on the SSD along with all programs and I moved my working AC files there too.
Opens incredibly fast and 3d window has no lag....
Was hoping this would be the case. Was worth the $100 for the new SSD drive...

Wow! How refreshing!

I am not sure that I would move my working Archicad files to the SSD as well.
Don't they have a limited read/write lifecycle?
I'm not sure of the actual figures (I am sure they are fairly large) but not having files that change many times throughout your working day on the drive should extend its life.

Yeah, I gave it some thought.
Sounds like these newer NAND type drives are , much much longer lived.
With 50GB of writing a day the real lifespan is 15 years.
I won't be doing anything close to 50GB a day.
I may keep the files on the HDD though...
But man, when I hit save it saves in a microsecond!
Love that.

We tested this slowness once. The last fast archicads for navigation/selection in 3d were 13/14. 13 was blazing fast, even loading files is fast. Since then it looks like it's been getting slower and slower from the reports.

Try turning off your contours in 3d window settings, it may help a little.
Yes. AC13 was superfast.

I've been on SSD disk all the time and saving/loading is fast but it's in 3D it's slow. You have to wait a second or two before selecting an object. If you are to fast you get a marquee instead of a selected object.

Forgot to talk to you about it this weekend Marton but now I've got a support package if you want. I'll contact you with PM for further details.
