Ctrl-C = Crash

Anonymous
Not applicable
It seems there is a new shortcut.

Ctrl-C = CRASH.

At least it does the first time I use it each day, if I have restarted my computer. After that it works fine, relaunch Archicad and all is good, Ctrl-C like crazy.... until I turn my computer off again, restart, launch Archicad, work, work, work, Ctrl-C - and it just hangs up.

I am starting to get one step ahead and saving immediately before using Ctrl-C to copy, meaning no work lost, but was wondering if anyone else is experiencing similar symptoms.

Cheers

I'm just a bit curious...
All the people who got this Ctrl+C trouble... did install Office?
I'm asking this because I have the feeling the trouble starting to appear as soon as I installed Office on my laptop and the Office Suite has a system "add-on" that handle the clipboard content...
If I quit the Office program (usually all of us have Outlook in the background) the trouble seems to disappear or, at least, occurs less often...

I have Office installed and get this crash occasionally. Your suspicians seem well founded.

Same here. Control-C sometimes locks up my computer. Hasn't happened when using right-click. Has never happened in other programs, but I use AC soooo much more than any other program.
(I do have Office installed, though)

Yes, I fully agree: the trouble occurs (at least to me) only if I use the shortcut Ctrl+C, it doesn't appear (quite funny!) if I use the Copy command from the Edit menu or that one from the contextual menu (right-click)...
BTW, for sure it doesn't depend on ArchiCAD: I got the same trouble also using other software...
And, finally, yes: when the application freezes if you go on the desktop and select a file (or open a folder) anything come back to work fine.

I have the same problem, but my AC doesn't freeze, it crashes, and i can't do anythung. I don't think that it is windows problem because I don't have this in another programs, especially in AC9.

i can't resolve this problem. The only resolution is to reinstall AC, it's terrible. I've reinstalled AC, everything vas cool, but during some time it repeated.

Maby the problem is, that by pressing ctrl+c I press one more button, or clik a mouse, or make 2 commands at one time because i work fast, everything can happen, ok let the AC crashes, but can i resolve this problem by another way, without reinstalling, or to find out where is the problem!

Oh! and the last. It crashes not only by ctrl+c but after evry copy command in AC10(by right button, by using menu...)

There might be two separate issues here:

1) Freeze (Archicad header turns white, nothing happens)
Graphisoft programmers investigated this very thoroughly, and came to the conclusion that it is probably a Windows problem. I personally experienced this with Outlook vs. Word, with no Archicad running. We can't help it. The workaround is what David mentioned:
Remain calm and toggle yourself into My Computer or Windows Explorer.
Select any file. Don't open it. Just light it up.

2) Crash
If Archicad crashes, then it is a different problem. Often this could indicate a protection-related problem, possibly a broken WIBU-key. (copy command is a security checkpoint). Try a different WIBU-key, if you can, or try reinstall the WIBU driver. But either way, do contact your local tech support with the crash ID, and they will figure out what happens.

Where is this WIBU-key. Is this a part of AC, or a windows driver.

Why i had not such a problem in AC9?

WIBU key is the hardware protection for Archicad. If you don't have it, you might be using a crack version, which explains why it crashes. You might want to talk to your local Archicad reseller...
