Update on my crashing problem. After reinstalling a backup from TimeMachine I was getting crashes of a different kind - each time I opened AC it would crash but the application would stay open to use. Then there appeared to be no problems with the graphics engine. Feedback from GS said that the error code did not show problems with openGL. So we were incorrect in assuming this.

Today, I wiped my drive completely clean and installed Mavericks. Then I only installed AC and no other apps. Success - no crashes. One by one I have been reinstalling all of my apps as needed. Everything still seems to running fine.

That's great news. Shame about so much work on your side by basically starting on a clean system.

I don't know all the details, but here's another issue I learned about from one of my users in Minnesota:

"We installed it (OS X 10.9) on a couple of machines and found that in general, it works. One item we observe is that when switching apps (while AC is running), we sometimes see mouse and keyboard freeze for about 20 seconds. The computer seems to be working through this, but input is not possible. This does not lead to crashes or any problems, it is just an annoying item. App nap is disabled for AC, so that is likely not the driver for the issue. "

Anyone else noticing this?

ALSO...

I noticed in this thread we haven't linked to the Compatibility notes. SO here they are:

and then a post with some other links and bits of advice about system upgrades (and links for Windows 8.1).

Hey Jared, so far we have no such reports. Please get in touch with our US team and they will help your client to address this. We would need process samples created when the 20 sec hangs are happening to check what might be causing it.

A quick heads-up to summarize the situation on 10.9. All known problems are documented here: http://archicadwiki.com/OsxMavericks If you notice anything new, let us know or get in touch with your local GS office or reseller.

As for the different versions:
- ArchiCAD 16 and 17 works well on 10.9, we maintain compatibility of these on 10.9
- ArchiCAD 13 - 15 works, but there are some problems. These won't block your work, but will cause difficulties. Like saving PDF terminates the program in v13.
- ArchiCAD 10 - 11 (12) are crashing at startup, so these version basically cannot be run
- ArchiCAD 9 and older version cannot be run as those are PPC applications and Rosetta, the environment that would allow us to run PPC apps on Intel powered Macs has been discontinued

This compatibility list raises one important question - conversion of older files. At the moment we have version 7, 9 and 10 file converter packages. Non of these run on 10.9, so the oldest file version that can be opened on 10.9 is 8.1. We are checking what better possibilities we have.

Testing AC17 on Mavericks on brand new MacBookPro: AC17 worked perfectly before upgrade - after upgrade, AC wouldn't recognize license key.

I manually upgraded Java, but the GS online upgrade applet still wouldn't work. Nor the stand alone authentication app downloaded from GS.

BUT... after opening the CodeMeter application (I didn't even know that that existed before) after a few seconds delay, the code key was found and license approved. Then everything working fine.

Just FYI...

Worth repeating: Anyone upgrading should (must?) read this article first:

http://www.archicadwiki.com/OsxMavericks

Near the top, it specifically lists "Startup Issues" related to the key, requiring reinstallation of the Wibu/Codemeter driver. Quick/painless.

Thanks, Marton! I'm quoting in full to draw more attention to your post... would like to make the post a 'sticky', but can only do that to a fresh thread.

Same problem here as well with mouse freezing for about 20 sec. Codemeter problem was solved quickly by installing it again.
So far it runs great!
