Is it better to buy a 27 4k monitor and use it at 2560x1440 or get a 27 non 4k monitor? Sorry for the stupid question. Now I use an imac 27 late 2009, so not retina and wanting to change it and I can't afford a 5k monitor. thanks

Would that be due to Mac display drivers being optimised to native Retina resolutions, which is usually around 5k at that size? Not a Mac user so all of these intracacies have gone over me... Wonder if the removal of sub-pixel antialiasing was aimed at selling more Retina displays...

I don't know the background to this change, it also happened at the end of 2018. Perhaps the requirement for a robust system fully optimized for a great experience with beautiful resolution, but perhaps also laziness of developers or forcing users to buy mainly Apple products? Who knows 🙂
Edit: Anyway, 5K monitors from other manufacturers work just as well on the Apple I hope. So they probably chose the Hi-res direction as the only possible one.
