Text Editor: Mac vs. PC

"on Mac, if I drag the Editor palette, the the text Editing box goes with it. But on Windows, the Palette detaches from the edit box and the box stays put. Is this the way it is supposed to work? Sometimes with closely spaced labels, the text editing box with its tabs and ruler, get in the way of seeing the label above. Maybe there is a more elegant solution that we can ask for in AC10."

Weird. Just reproduced this. IMHO, the way it is done on Windows makes more sense to me.

With windows, the text you are entering is anchored to your insertion point no matter where you drag the editing palette. With the Mac, if you drag the palette (taking the text along with it), you really don't have any idea as to where the text will be inserted until you press cmd-enter (or click outside the palette/box) and it re-appears at the original insertion point.

Guys,

Please post the complaints here, not in the Wishlist.

The Wishlist is for the clearly articulated wishes. It is preferable not to repeat the same wish 20 times, but go through the wishlist and check whether a similar thread already exists.

Therefore, I moved the thread here, for further discussion.

Thanks,

Please allow me to disagree. I think that the MAC option gives you more flexibility. You can separate the text editor box and the text formatting palette by setting "jump to preferred position" instead of "above text editor" for the formatting palette in "Work Environment/User preferences scheme/Dialog Boxes & Palettes"

So you can drag around the formatting palette without resetting the text input box. But in some cases you might want to drag the text editor box too, e.g. you want to see what is underneath, or you want it to put it in the middle of the screen for better visibility, etc. These are things you cannot do on PC. (I filed this request)
