How to map a circular material

Does any have any pointers for curved material mapping? Say on a tube curving for railing

I was able to get things much closer using TUBEA in the same manner. the sides are a little off still when you have a curve mapped, but the lower resolution still looks much better than before.

tubea doesn't work well with rise though. distorts the profiles size.
