Archicad automatically inserts ' (feet) after first digit when entering distance

I’m having an issue when entering distances in Archicad. Previously I could move an element with Command + D and simply type the distance (for example 20' or 5"). Now Archicad automatically inserts a feet symbol ' immediately after the first digit, before I finish typing.

For example:

  • If I try to type 20, it automatically becomes 2'0.

  • If I want 10, it becomes 1'0.

  • If i want 5", it automatically becomes 5'.

Because of this I cannot type multi-digit values normally. I have to delete the ' symbol or use the Reference Distance (R) every time, which I did not have to do before.

Nothing in my Working Units (Feet & Inches, fractional) has changed, and I already checked Tracker and Coordinate Input settings, but the behavior persists.

Has anyone encountered this before or knows what setting could cause Archicad to automatically insert the feet symbol after the first digit during numeric input?

Additional info:
I recorded a short video showing the issue. In the first attempt at drawing the line, I press R for reference distance and I’m able to enter the 20' distance I want without any problem.

In the second attempt, I try to simply type 20' directly without pressing R or any other key. You can see that after I type the 2, Archicad automatically inserts the feet symbol (') before I finish typing the number. I then have to delete that symbol in order to type the 0 and complete the distance.

In the last attempt, you can see what usually happens when I’m working quickly. I’m typing distances fast and don’t notice that the ' symbol was inserted automatically, so the value becomes incorrect and I have to stop and go back to fix it.

Previously I was able to work quickly and type distances directly without Archicad automatically inserting the feet symbol after the first digit. Now it happens every time unless I use R for reference distance, which slows down the workflow.

I get that when clicking on the AC icon in the dock. Tried opening a file directly too ... no go. I'm in the process of deleting the other preferences and reapplying the latest update.

Second line did the trick for AC28 as well.

~/Library/Preferences/com.Graphisoft.AC xx.0.0 yyy v1.plist

Don't know if both are needed, but its safe to say that they do.

So, recap:

- for AC29, save your work environment, delete ~/Library/Preferences/Graphisoft/AC xx.0.0 yyy v1, restart, load you saved WE, problem gone.

- for AC 28, save your WE, delete both ~/Library/Preferences/Graphisoft/AC xx.0.0 yyy v1 and ~/Library/Preferences/com.Graphisoft.AC xx.0.0 yyy v1.plist. If you get Application can't be opened you need to reapply latest update. To do this, before running the installer, I had to edit ProductVersion.xml and type in a lower build number than 6300 (i used 6200), otherwise it will say latest update is already installed and won't work. Make sure you edit it before running it. Then start AC, load your saved WE, bill $0 for all the trouble, carry on.

EDIT: First time opening a saved file, other than the default template, problem reappeared, i'm dying.

LATER EDIT: Opening the default AC Template doesn't show the bug!! Graphisoft, make sure you are not testing with the default template!!!!

Same issue here! It started after updating to 26.4...

ok, I had a designer update their OS; they confirmed, 1'-8" turns into 18' and 18' turns into 1'8 and all sorts of weird things... they are totally screwed... can we get a 29.1.5 asap?

Hi @Claudiu Serban, I've decided to accept your response as the solution since I feel it sums up most concisely what is happening.

Thanks all for your input. I had opened a ticket with Graphisoft a few days ago and provided them the link to this forum so they could see what everyone was commenting. They did a little investigating and came up with the conclusion that it's a system software bug related to MacOS26.4. They said they are working directly with Apple developers to try and solve the issue. Hopefully, a solution comes very soon.

Again, than you all!

After updating to macOS Tahoe 26.4, Archicad (both version 27 and 29) shows an issue with the Tracker input.

When entering numeric values (e.g., distances), the Tracker automatically accepts a single digit and completes it as a decimal (e.g., typing "75" results in "7.00").

It seems that the input is being auto-confirmed too quickly, not allowing time to enter multi-digit values.

Workaround: Pressing TAB before typing allows correct input.

This behavior started immediately after the macOS update and occurs consistently in both versions.

Please advise if this is a known issue or if there is a fix available.

Just chiming in here to confirm this issue also affects AC25 after the macOS 26.4 update. I will submit a ticket. Fingers crossed!

I've just updated to the macOS 26.4.1 update in the hope it would fix this issue but it hasn't.

Bumping the thread - still an issue here too.

For what it's worth, I run AC27 & AC29 on both mac platforms, Intel and Silicon, with macOS 26.4. This issue only occurs on the Mac Silicon machine.
