Archicad fundamentals

I thought that I knew Archicad quite well - I've been using it long enough. But now I am having trouble with fundamentals.

1. I thought that selecting a building with a heavy marquee automatically selected all of its stories - a light marquee only selects the story one is on. I am obviously mistaken because my heavy marquee is only selecting the story I am on. Bit awkward when I am trying to copy a whole building to a mesh.

2. I thought that one could create a hotlinked modules comprising several stories. I can't and nothing I do works. That's why I am manually copying my building to the mesh.

Any ideas?

You can publish modules. Just set up a layercombination of the bits you need and make a clone of your Stories in the View Map with that layercombination.

Then go to Organizer and select the View Map on the left and Publisher on the right. Make a new Publisher Set with Publishing Method "save files". Hit Properties and select the path / folder to which you would like to save the module file. On the left side select the clone you made of the stories and click on the Add Shortcut button. This creates a dynamic link to the clone. Now pick "Module File" as the format.

Select Options and pick Save Elements from All Stories. Click ok. Now hit publish button. You will have saved a multistory module file.

On your mesh file place the module as one multistory module. Be sure to link the story of your module to the corresponding story of the mesh file.

Your story settings between both files need to be the same! If this is not the case (and can't be changed), there are workarounds, but it will take a bit more time to explain.

Hello Erwin
Thanks for your prompt reply. As I understand it, the default for modules is 'all stories'. Mine, for some reason, isn't working.

Following all the steps I've outlined you cannot select the option all stories in the publisher settings?

I've just double checked them in ArchiCAD17: for me they work.

Hi.

Heavy marquee will show a single story if "filter and cut elements in 3D" is NOT set to "infinite". That may be the culprit.

As for multistory hotlink... AFAIK multistory doesn't work with module files... only with pln files (or was is the linking of elements? don't really remember)

Best regards.

In the Publisher settings for a Module you can specify a range of Storeys to Publish no need to use a marquee
