Desperate problem - saved model file appears blank - help

Not applicable
We have Archicad 8.1, on PC, windows 2000

One of our users saved a large model file. When she re-opened the file there are only a few bits of text, nothing else. The file size on disk is still large (22mb). Any ideas on why the information is not loading from .pln file?

cheers,
Robin

More info would help. Did you: Turn on all layers? Look through all stories? Check the model (with all layers on)? Are there any error messages?

Did you check all the stories? All the layers on and unlocked? Wat is the viewset?

Is there anything in the 3D window? When you open the file, go to Layer settings, unlock and show all the layers, go to 3D settings, set on of the parallel views, open 3D window, and check what happens there.

22MB is too much for an empty file.

Sorry, I am an experienced archiCAD user, so I'm not talking about the obvious.

The problem is in the loading of the file. It clearly has all the object info in it becasue it's 22mb. the quickviews preview shows the whole model, but the 2d & 3d window contain nothing save for 3 bits of text. Also the file takes no time to load, so it's obviously skipping over the info in the .pln file. Is there a key I should hold down while opening a .pln file to force the program to load with defaults or something like that?

Is there in archicad 8.1 a function to recover .pln files like autocad does with .dwg files?

cheers,

It might be that you are just zoomed too far out; I remeber once having a case where a user was zoomed out so far away we had to send his file to GS to recover.

Not as such, but this might help:

Start ArchiCAD, choosing the Default option (Create new project, Use default settings). Then go to File/Merge, and merge in your problematic file. What happens then?

Another things to try:

- zoom to fit; what happens?
- activate arrow tool; Select all. What happens?
- double click on any of the views you set (if you did?)

What is the scale? What does the percent zoom factor at the bottom of the 2D window say?

Did you call your tech support?

It might well be that a piece of the project is flung far, far away and that your zooming is so far out you can't see anything.

Also, where is your origin relative to the project? There might be problems if the origin is too far away.

Post a screen shot of the screen you get when you open that file, maybe something can be gleaned out if it?

Another thought:

Try merging or hotlinking the troublesome file into a new file.
