File size balloons after save

Just 2 days ago saving/closing a file I discovered that the file size had zoomed up from 7 MB to 52 MB. I've taken it apart looking for a sudden increase in lines or fills or whatever. It operates the same, all sections & elevations are still linked ( manual...) with some masking fills and added lines. Nothing seems to have been duplicated, no secret stories or invisible layers, no "show preview in navigator", It's a mystery to me and a bit of a concernment. The job was started in 8.1 and after opening it in 9.0 often crashed--until I copied all stories & layers with the O-cursor into a new file. It has run smoothly since then. I'm afraid I'm not very skilled in the Search field and haven't turned up any historical similarities. Also, I had just included Karls much appreciated contribution to the menus. The file still performs the same. Any known causes or should I just invest in a larger HD ?

Cheers,
Wally

Wally,
Did you check for duplicate section symbols ?

Peter,
Yes, I've checked for duplicates of section markers and for any additional drawings in the Project Map. Nothing extra shows up. It sure saves like a 50 MB file.

turn off "Save Navigator Preview Data With Project Files" which can be found in the "2D Redraw Options..." in your WE preferences. see also:

which contains a link to GS's own archiGuide on the subject . . .

Ben,
that's what I meant in my first post: "Nothing seems to have been duplicated, no secret stories or invisible layers, no "show preview in navigator","

It's a mystery.

Thanks

Probably selecting all stories with Thick Marquee and copy-pasting your file into a New&Reset file will take care of this problem.
Of course you will have to copy-paste all that you've drawn in all Section/Elevation/Detail Windows as well as a separate step.

No bitmaps that I can find, Djordje, Looks like I'll have to do (again) as Laszlo suggests and copy to a New & Reset. I deconstructed the file last night and it's holding on to its secret.

Much obliged,

Re-roofing the Griffiths

We discovered ( GH did ) that as soon as you change the materials texture from Roof 01Tile to Empty fill, the roof slims down by 46 MB. Hungarian tiles are built for giants it seems, heavier than the concrete tile we use here. Some Paprika additive. Nothing had been exploded or copied to death, there were no extra lines or fills, etc. The same fill on other roofs so far haven’t collapsed, pure chance ? Took a week after a roof material change to show up. The usual all layers copy with the O-Marque didn’t change the file. The Leaky Roof Fix as it’s now regarded around here. Watch your fills.

Thanks,
W.

Wally,
Thank you for letting us know how you fixed your problem.
Often people bring up issues here and then don't let the rest of us know
some important information that they have found while solving
the problem.
