Is it possible to model a glass balustrade with spigots using the railing tool?

Sure.

Just make the inner and end post short in height and add a fixing plate.

Use the 'railing post' and not the 'built-in' post.

Use the EDIT function with the posts as the target and the panels as the operator and 'subtract' to get the slot.

Or you can model the spigot and save it as a 'Custom post' object.

I took the time to create my own spigot in GDL so I have even more control.

This is at most that the railing can do. If you place 1 for the no. of horizontal fixing it will create an alternate fixing.

If 2 it will do this.

There's no option that will allow you to turn on or off up or down. 🤔

I tried using the inner posts and it works well! thanks! Any tips on getting the end posts to offset? What settings did you use?

@Barry Kelly, yes using SEO and Custom Post might help but do you think Graphisoft will further develop the railing tool to be more easier to use?

It is a very common balustrade, so it would be nice if there was a short spigot post available as an out of the box solution.

I am sure they could script one that is much better than mine.

Mine of course is set up to suit my template attributes (and I have spotted something wrong in the scrips).

If I get a chance I will see if I can save it to suit a default Graphisoft template and then I will share it here.

The railing tool has some room for improvements, but I am not holding my breath waiting for them.

Automatic distribution of multiple rails is one that I want - as in a multi-wire railing.

That would be wonderful. 😁

Not all users here are well versed with using GDL.

Here it is.

It is an LCF because there are a couple of macros and image files with it.

So add it to your office/project library or just load it as an additional library.

You will need to unzip the file of course (can't attach LCF files here).

It is not perfect and comes as it is - like it or not.

You still have to set th post height and it does not automatically use the panel thickness or base height for the slot in the spigot.

I think I set the defaults the same as other Graphisoft posts for pen colours, materials, etc.
