MERGE TWO FILLS

There must be a way...likely I forgot..how do you merge two fills into one?

Thanks Randy. I am aware of adding [+] to the polygon but I am thinking if I can select two intesecting polygon and merge them.....

Good day.

Whenever I try to merge two fills with the Fill Consolidation tool, whether from the toolbar, keyboard shortcut or edit menu, nothing happens.
If I'm not mistaken a wizard window is supposed to pop up that lets you tick boxes of every Line Consolidation option that you wish to execute.
The fills I'm trying to consolidate are identical and I've made sure that they don't have transparent backgrounds.

What am I doing wrong?
