Making Oval Handrail ?

Anonymous
Not applicable
Would rather not spend time tweeking the stair maker tool as it hasn't been that productive in the past.

any hints on how to model a handrail for an oval stair, as shown attachement?

Perhaps a 2D profile applied to a primitive form?

Will appreciate any ideas/suggestions.
Thanks,
Cedric Araica

John,
If you use the TUBE command example in the GDL manual but make
the "ramp" have a width of 0.4 meters and a height of 2.0 meters
you will see immediately what I mean.

John,
Take a look at the attached object and you will see what I mean.

Tom,
Aren't you forgetting something ?
As your roof as railing goes up and curves around
it's top surface becomes non-level.
This is why you can't make a circular ramp with the roof tool.
The surface has to twist as it rises to stay level in cross section.
Thank you,

ahhh..... nuts. You're right. I knew that was too easy.... could be convincing for a quick presentation though....

Tom you can steel do that!
Rect. rail is ramp. So if you don't like ramp object in lib or that's not enough, then you always can create ramp with "Create roofs from mesh" Add-on. First create curved mesh on floor plan with 4 points. Lower 2 points must have equal z coord., top's 2 too.
Click on roof tool and set thickness equal to rect. rail's height.
Back to mesh. Select it on plan. Choose "Create roofs from mesh" add-on from menu and we have rect. rail
You can also use created roofs as operator for curved wall if you steel need it for something or can leave roofs as they are and use them as rail.

I have developed Spiral Object from AC9 Std Lib. Now spiral has not only circle section, but also elliptical. Resolution for elliptical section is controllable!

And here is demo render of spiral with elliptical section

Well done!
