Mesh contours - Automatic level dimensions

Ancha
Booster

Hello,

A Mesh issue:

Shouldn't there be a way to automatically generate the level dimensions of the contours of a mesh? And to have the option to have them displayed by 0,5m, 1m, 5m, 10m etc. In Revit you just draw a "line" on the mesh and it automatically generates the elevation of each contour the line intersects..

HI @Ancha ,

Unfortunately that feature is not yet available by default, but there are some interesting third party add-ons you can check out such as LAND4.

Regards.

Like Revit, with the contour selected and the mesh tool you an draw lines that will place lines and points on the mesh. I avoid starting a mesh contour on an outside boundary but instead stretch the line to the outer boundary afterwards. To set the elevation with the contour unselected, select the line by left clicking on any line part (not points). When the pet pallet comes up select "add new points". Left click again and set the z-value as the contour height. You should have set a reference  plane relative to the bench mark.

An easier way to create contours ls to first draw a spline or poly line over where the contour as required. For accuracy this should be obtained from importing surveying data directly into ARCHICAD. With the mesh selected and the mesh tool activated use the magic wand tool ([spacebar]+[left-click]) to add the contour line. Use left click after it is created to set the contour height relative to the reference height. This is shown in the example.

The best method of getting contours is to obtain an "XYZ" or "ASCII" file containing contours directly from a surveyor and import it to your project using DESIGN-IMPORT MESH FROM SURVEYORS DATA. In most cases it is seamless and may only require a bit of tweaking here and there.

Like many of ARCHICAD's tools spend some time getting familiar with it before you try to apply to your project. Good luck!
