Outside roof moulding

Hi

I am experiencing problems in modeling up a outside roof moulding.
The one on the picture is created with duplicates of roof.
The problem is that it does not represent the planed design of the moulding so i need to change it.
Like you can se on the picture I need it to be following the roof.

My first try was to doing it with custom profile and draw them has beams with different slope. (that did not work since it did not crate a correct intersection in the corners when 2 beams with different slope connected.

My second try was the morph tool.
I made a 2D profile and a path for it so i could extrude it in 3D..
That did not work because the profile was twisting it self when the path changed slope.

What should i do here?

One issue with complex profiles is if the the molding profile has a curve
with a radius of less than 1 3/4" the curve will be resolved into three
or less facets .

Thank you for posting!
No there is no curve in the new profile.
I see that I am by far not the only one to have the same problem.
I am seeing forward to an update or a object to use.
This way take way to much time and way to hard to get exact.
Whats the way to make something in 3d if it takes more time to create it and change it than a 2D drawing.

One method that works for fixing the connection is using a 0 thickness roof on a hidden SEO layer to make the mitred joints as needed.

Substract from profiled beam as needed to make the proper mitred joints.

Your floorplan display will need some 2d patching though.

The morphtool is good for once off, later adjustments are too tricky.

The profiler addon is also an option. Especially combined with morphtool.

I prefer custom profiles, though. Adjusting the trim detailing is a lot less work.


One side note: there is/was a bug with 0 thickness roofs having a 5 mm thickness in archicad 17. Workaround: stack two roofs with thickness for both cuts.
