Railing Tool: "Change Associative Segments/Nodes to Static"

The Reference Guide subsection "Change Associative Segments/Nodes to Static" implies the reverse cannot be done. On the other hand, there are two pet palette commands "Railing Segment Type" and "Railing Node Type" (which don't appear in my U.S. version of AC27) that suggest otherwise: Each command triggers a dialog box titled "Segment Type" and "Node Type" respectively, allowing a choice.

Furthermore, in Rail Tool Settings, the Segment Settings and Node Settings pages include a statement: "Segment associativity (or Node elevation and associativity) can be set in Edit mode." The statements are placed below a dimmed Associativity pop-out. This also suggests one can change it either way.

I find no way to activate these pop-outs, nor can I explain the absence of the pet palette commands noted above. Can someone tell me what I'm missing here?

I think a Railing Segment can be changed from Associative to Static and vice versa only if the Railing Nodes on its two sides are both Associative. (You can see it from the selection dot of the Node: round dot - Associative, square dot - Static.) So make sure those Nodes are Associative and the Railing Segment Type command will appear on the Pet Palette.

If the Railing Node Type command does not appear on the Pet Palette when you click a Railing Node, drag the Node away to another position, then drag it back onto the element Node and it will be Associated with the element Node again, and the Railing Node Type command should also reappear on the Pet Palette.

Saying all the above, I have been experimenting with this and sometimes I did the above and the Pet Palette commands still did not appear. In this case, the best may be to recreate the Railing, or drag away and back each of its Nodes to makes sure all of the them are re-associated with the respective element Nodes.

Can you show a screenshot/screenshots of exactly where this happens?

Hi Laszlo,

Thanks for weighing in.

I finally was able to trigger the two pet palette commands, though sometimes it doesn't want to work (like if you fuss with a test railing too many times).

The attached screenshots merely show parts of the Railing Tool Segment/Node Settings showing what I described in the second paragraph. The "Associative" pop-out always remains dimmed no matter what the current setting is for a Segment or Node. Nothing to worry about as long as the pet palette commands are working.

Thanks, Laszlo

Those are nuances I'd never find time to discover on my own.
