Roof Dormer

I'm currently practicing work with roofs right now and I've encountered an annoying problem. The roof below the dormer cuts away my first floor wall every time i try to put the roof in the correct location. What is causing this? I have no relations between that roof and the first floor of the house so why would it be taking that away?

This is the wall when the roof of the second floor doesn't pass over the wall.

If you are using multiplane roof, try looking at the Trimming Body and its settings in the roof dialog. To show trimming bodies: View > On Screen View Options > Trimming Bodies

Sometimes it's easier to make more complex roof combinations with good old single plane roofs (I actually prefer them for a number of reasons having to do with texture/hatch allignment, CTRL/CMD clicking edges to connect roofs, etc).

Thank for the tip Erwin!

I also realized that I had changed my wall size but not the story size of the roof, so when i dragged my roof down to meet the walls, it started to pick up as the first floor instead of the second. I don't know if changing that will fix the problem or not, as i haven't tried it yet. If my solution attempt doesnt work i will definitely give yours a shot!

Thanks, Ben

I love using multi-plane roofs when I can. However, like Erwin, I usually end up using the "old" single plane method as well.
