Roof Tool - Barrel Vault

Vitruvius

I've just started on AC 10 and am creating a barrel vaulted roof.

I was kind of hoping Graphisoft would get their act together and allow us to eliminate the interior lines - this tool still behaves like something out of 1996. Is there a way to turn off those lines?

You mean like Maxonform?

No, not like Maxonform.

I'd like a smooth barrel vault which displays like an ArchiCAD curved wall - ie. its not rendered like a bunch of segments.

It should be sooooo easy for GS to fix this longstanding LAME implementation.

Please GS...

Still lame but here is how I did it on a huge house with 10 barrel dormers recently:

1) use very small segments (magic wand settings)
2) set the internal segments to a white pen.
3) set the outer most segments to a printing pen
4) use a ring-like part from the basic shapes in the Library for the facia.

This way it is possible to get something that looks OK in plan and section/3d

Total hack........

Lots of people will tell you that SEO's are the way to go but then you never get it right in plan.

One option is to not use the roof tool and build it using profiler and solid element operations...

Can you use the V10 profiler of the wall tool?

Okay, try this:

Draw a curved wall. Save as a GDL object, carefully selecting your viewpoint so that it is created from a "plan view" of the future roof.

Place object. It will be nice and stretchy and take maybe 30 sec. to create, once you understand the process.

I posted this thought somewhere else today: Any reason why you could not make a Profile out of that, then draw it with the beam or wall tools?

Or what about the parametric primitive "Conoid?"

Great name.
