Shadow Fills from 3d Window - Fill Pattern Pen won't change

I'm having an issue with shadow fills I've copied from the 3D window using the Internal Engine. I've copied the shadow polygons and pasted them into the floor plan view. The resultant fills have the Fill Background Pen '(-2) RGB color' where the icon is the red/green/blue coloured 'pie chart' icon. I'd like to change the fill pattern pen to a black/grey and the background to transparent and use a 25% or 50% solid fill to make all the shadow fills a transparent grey to overlay on my site plan but when I change the Fill Pattern Pen nothing happens (the colour doesn't change). I seem to be able to change the Fill Background Pen but not the Fill Pattern Pen. There are no model view overrides active that would be causing this.

Has anyone experienced such a problem before and, if so, what is the solution?

This works for me just fine.
Foreground Pen set to Black (Pen 1), Background Pen set to Transparent (Pen Index: 0), Fill type is 25%, 50% or 75%, and it results in an increasingly dark grey and increasingly opaque Fill which can be seen if you place anther element behind the Fill.
So I don't see any problem here.
Maybe something with your graphics card driver? You could try an update to the latest driver version?
