Start a polyline, offset a set distance from a point

I'm trying to start drawing a polyline a set distance from another point or line, but something seems to not be working (at least as it used to).

I have the polyline tool selected in polyline method, move the cursor over an existing element so that cursor changes to a tick. I type "y 300 + enter", the cursor shifts the 300 and flashes off and the pet palette flashes for a split-second, but nothing happens. ArchiCAD doesn't register that I should have begun to draw a line.

It works correctly for other line types :- single lines, rectangular lines or polylines, - but not for normal polylines or chained lines. Same thing goes for other element types: walls, slabs, roofs. Anything as a polyline or chained, doesn't work.

Anyone, Is this a bug? Or has something in input methods changed in 9?

Sounds to me you have found a node (tick mark cursor shape). You should find an edge (mercedes cursor shape) and it should work then.

Works fine for me with all geometry methods/tools.

The flashing pet palette may be a clue. There was (is?) a bug involving the pet palette flashing and going away depending on the settings in the Work Environment for "follow cursor" - depending on the distance sliders. With "jump to prefered position", and with build 2045 and most 'follow' positions I just tried, I have no problems at all.

I suggest changing your pet palette preferences in 2D Work Environment and see if that resolves the issue?

There is a bug somewhere. It has to do with Pet Palette mode. If it follows your cursor, you will get the problem described. If your Pet Palette goes to a defined location, it works fine. GS already knows about it.

Thanks Karl & Tom.

That was exactly the problem. Changed Pet Pallette Preference to "Jump to preferred position" and everything works fine.
