Using Element ID Manager and the single story barrior.

What the heck are people doing about assigning door and window ID's across multiple stories? Element ID Manager is a great tool but it seems rather insane that it only works in the floor plan, one story at a time. So if you have hundreds of windows on lots of stories is there any sort of automated workaround? Naturally, I want windows with the same height and width to use the same ID. Any ideas?

Please say yes!

In the past, with complex window layouts I've even resorted to copy pasting all walls onto one story but with a bunch of SEOs this seems very risky.

Any thoughts?

You could create a window schedule (with all the parameters you want to change)..... edit the parameters in the schedule... and then "update" the schedule to the plan.

Yup. But golly, wouldn't ya feel like a nimrod filling in a bunch of consecutive numbers with your fancy $5000 software? It's amazing to me how hard it is doing good schedules in what is essentially a database program. The irony here is nearly lethal.....

I'd better stop now before my reputation as a nattering naybob of negativity gets any worse. Thanks Mr Stressco, this is probably the best approach. Into the breach I go!

once you have the windows placed, why not use find and select using the window width (and/or height) as the defining parameter? once you have all the windows selected, just change the object id to what you want it to be and all of them will get the same id. if some already have the correct id and that's what comes up in the info box, just change the text to something else, wait a second for it to update, and then change it back. simple - I use this method all the time for id's on light fixture types.

Wes's approach is very handy, especially in 3D where you can select all the windows at once.

The interactive scheduler is also very useful for taming the odd errant ID (or even kicking the whole motley assortment into line).

Element ID Manager works in the current Floor Plan for all selected W(D) or if not selected then for all W(D) through all stories!
