Your working method.

Hi all.

I am very new to Archicad, been using it for just over a week now. Although I am enjoying it immensely, I have quickly realised it's limit in terms of more organic, complex structures. This got me thinking, how do people work with Archicad and other applications? What pitfalls have people experienced, what have they found to work really well?

So I thought I'd ask you lot. What 3D aps do you use in conjunction with Archicad? Does it work well, what have you experienced that has caused troubles and how did you get around it? For example I work mainly on visual effects, and so use Maya. I have found that when I import models from Archicad they are incredibly messy and need a large amount of clean up before they will render without artifacts. I am tempted to try Maxonform (I have Cinema 4D R10) and wondered how people find using it? Or do you prefer the full-on version of Cinema 4D?

Anyway, if you could spare 10 minutes to explain your methods I think we could all learn from each other. I wish I could offer more, and if anyone needs to know anything about visual effects or linked topics I will gladly respond.

Regards.

Andrew.

Andrew,

The MaxonForm/C4D plugin connection is the most organic and two way one between Archicad and any other freeform capable software. Just going throught the Maxon tutorials is giving you quite a bit of information.

You can also, as many do, use SketchUp as a freeform or easy modeler, and then import the geometry or convert the components into not so parametric library parts.

Don't forget to try ArchiForma, and explore the more traditional ways of generating blobotecture in Archicad ...
