Zone Issue

Hi guys, I'm trying to create zones after I create walls, but I keep geting this error:

No closed polygon found around the clicked point, but one has been found outside the clicked point. Accept it as a Zone?

Note: Elements may not be connected properly, or may not form a closed polygon due to their renovation status.

The division is closed, and I have different renovation status but they are as it should be. Also all the walls have zone boundary selected.

Can anyone please shed any light in this issue?

This appears to be based on the Renovation Status of the zone itself. If the zone has an existing status it will ignore walls with a new status. Once the zone is changed to new, it recognizes the boundaries created by new walls (or other boundary objects). Don't know if that is documented anywhere, we stumbled across the solution.

Bingo! this was the answer to the problems I was having with automatic zoning. I changed the proposed zone to NEW in the renovations pallet before clicking inside the space and now it works.

I checked into this and yes, Zones with a certain Reno Status will recognize only zone boundary elements (Walls, Columns, Lines etc.) with certain Reno Statuses.
So:

A Zone with "Existing" Reno status will recognize elements with "Existing" Reno status.
A Zone with "Demo" Reno status will recognize elements with "Existing" or "Demo" Reno status.
A Zone with "New" Reno status will recognize elements with "Existing" or "New" Reno status.

Or, if I want to look at it the opposite way:

A Zone with "Existing" Reno status will NOT recognize elements with "Demo" or "New" Reno status.
A Zone with "Demo" Reno status will NOT recognize elements with "New" Reno status.
A Zone with "New" Reno status will NOT recognize elements with "Demo" Reno status.

I have also informed GS about this so they can include this info in the Help files.

For me, the issue is that my zones do not ignore walls set to "no effect on zones" or any other setting that allows the zone to "flood through". All walls seem to be accepted as Zone boundaries.

If I copy all the walls and the zone to the side, outside of the building, it works as it should. I have no idea as to what could be causing the issue. Any thoughts?

I am about to make a copy of the whole thing and start deleting elements to see what could be the issue.

Thanks laszlonagy, what you say makes sense. I think what throws people is that the error message that comes up is "software speak" and doesn't say anything about renovation settings. Presumably the software has detected that the renovation setting is the problem, so the warning box should say so.

AC is so complicated now, whenever you run into a problem you need to have a checklist on the wall next to your computer

Is it A...?
Is it B...?
Is it C...?
Is it D...?
etc

I agree with you, Warning Dialogs could have one sentence clues included stating what should be checked to solve the issue. Would be very helpful.

I figured it out in my case.

I had to recreate the wall.

It turns out that all walls that had been cut were not working with the zone tool.

Hello to all!
New to ArchiCAD and I am facing a zone issue in one of my projects. I have a room but when I try to make a zone it says that "no closed polygon found". I tried with the fill tool to find where the problem is and as you see in the attached image, it is in the connection between the wall and the column. For sure these are adjusted and are on existing status. Where could be the problem? Thanks!

Does the Wall butt against the side of the Column?
If so, that could be the problem.
Make sure that the Reference Lines of the Walls connect properly and then there should be no error in the Zone recognizing its boundaries.

Exactly! That was the problem. I thought that when you have a grid of columns, when you connect them with walls you cave a closed polygon.
Apparently the walls have to intersect inside the column so as I can have a zone. Why isn't this done automatically as as the walls touch the column?
Hope this intersects only the reference lines and not raises the wall's area

The body of the Column is automatically cut out of the body of the Wall and that will be reflected in the area and volume of the Wall, so no worry.
