For myself the drag and drop does work for the Zone Stamps. On OSX 10.8.4 I was able to drag Zone stamps into ArchiCAD 17 from Safari 6.0.3, Firefox 22.0 and Google Chrome successfully. I am not certain about Windows right now, I will need to test.

Fricka Frack...

I just ported a 16 project to 17... ALL MY ZONES now read GROSS AREA and not the zone name previously input. All the names are there in the dialog box, but the stamp will ONLY display GROSS AREA as the zone name...

This is NOT the CATEGORY and switching the USE CATEGORY as NAME has no effect....

Someone tell me how I can get my Room Names back!..

I presume this is NOT because Zone Identifier 2 is not available, because is shows up fine (not a DOT) and appears in the menu list for the zone setup...

Help!

It looks like the script for the AC17 version is bollocks. Perhaps you can open the original file in 16, open the zone stamp and save as "Zone Stamp VF" or something and embed it. This should change the GUID and prevent the substitution when you open in 17.

Along the same train of thought, I just replaced that stamp with the NCS version... and all the names displayed correctly and I could make the stamp look like it did before... My euphoria was short lived though... as this process was quickly followed by a CRASH....

I've got a new v17 file in which the zone tool doesn't appear to work at all. I select the tool, it says "click into an Area...etc" down in the lower left, but when I click, nothing happens at all. The walls area set as zone boundaries.

A few times I clicked, it gave me dialog box saying that no area could be found but it could try if I said yes, it would create a zone comprised of he inner area of a few nearby walls - not enclosed by the walls, but the walls themselves.

EDIT - I just tried creating quick wall rectangles and the zone tool seems to work fine - something must be messed up with the walls of my plan, but I can;t think what it could be.

Anyone have a similiar trouble or ideas to fix it?

thanks!

Turn on your wall reference lines (on screen display option) and see how they all trim.
They will all need to connect to each other to create an enclosed space for the zone to place automatically.

Worse case scenario if you can't get the wall to trim together properly then set the zone to manual draw (in 17 you can now do a rectangle) and draw the zone yourself.

reference lines all appear to line up properly - doesn't make any sense!

hate to do it manually, though, maybe there's something simple I'm missing

It could be the smallest of gaps.
The only way to know for sure is to force all the walls to trim with each other again.

Often I will drag a copy of the walls to the side so I can play with them and then it doesn't matter if I destroy them.
If you drag a copy and can place a zone in them then I wonder if there are other walls (other layers or duplicates) that are interfering.

Checked all the connections by trimming, then copied the walls enclosing one room to the side and checked the intersections again - no luck. Then i drew a quick room again and sure enough the zone works there - even though one of the reference lines didn't properly intersect! This is so weird - thanks for the continuing thoughts and help!
