elliptical column

is there a way to have a column that is elliptical in plan?

the circular column doesn't seem to allow for different x and y dimensions, and neither do any of columns or "basic shapes" in the library...

Make an elliptical shaped fill and paste it
into the complex profile editor and use the
new profile with the column tool.

You can achieve that by applying a custom profile (an ellipse in your case) to your column.

Since the section of the column is going to be complex (recessed based, top and reveals) I realized I could also make a complex wall profile and then apply that via the magic wand to make a wall from a elliptical polygon. It ends up as a number of curved wall segments, but once they're grouped together it'll work fine.
